Deep in the heart of the Carpathia Wilderness Reserve, perched on one of the south-eastern ridges of the Fagaras Mountains, there is a special cabin hidden in the middle of the forest overlooking Pecineagu Lake.
The spectacular wildlife hide is far away from any village but provides all the comforts you could need – expect a lovely home-cooked dinner and good glass of wine.
A few days at the hide are a fantastic opportunity to watch wildlife – spending dusk and dawn looking out for bears, boar, deer and other wildlife, and also an opportunity to explore the stunning wilderness of the Carpathian Mountains.

The hide was built by our partner, Foundation Conservation Carpathia (FCC), and is an example of a green business which has a positive impact on the environment. Each stay at the hide contributes to FCC’s work in creating a world-class wilderness reserve in the Southern Carpathians, large enough to support significant numbers of large carnivores and to allow natural evolutionary processes to thrive.
The hide is part of a new, non-destructive economy which FCC are helping to build around the Fagaras Mountains for the benefit of biodiversity and local communities.

A one night stay at the hide might look something like this:
Once the sun starts to set, look out for bears, red and roe deer, wild boar and foxes, all from the comfort of the hide.
Once it is dark, enjoy a candle-lit dinner made from local, organic ingredients paired with premium Romanian organic wines. Spend the evening telling stories by candlelight and go to sleep listening for the howls of wolves!
At dawn, continue to look out for wildlife whilst snuggling in a duvet with a mug of fresh tea or coffee.
After a delicious breakfast, take a short or longer hike in the surrounding mountains and check the camera traps FCC uses for wildlife monitoring.
For lunch, settle down for a picnic in a scenic spot with a fantastic view over the Făgăraș or the Iezer-Păpușa Mountains.
