Riverwoods: The London Premiere – A success

Date: Tuesday 24th May 2022, 17.30 – late
Venue: British Film Institute (BFI) Southbank

We would like to personally thank all those that attended the London premiere of Riverwoods. The brainchild of SCOTLAND: The Big Picture’s Mat Larkin and Peter Cairns, Riverwoods is the spectacular and compelling story of a fish that lives in the forest. And in the soil that feeds the forest. And in the predators, scavengers and even herbivores of the forest. It’s a tale of a deep connections between species; and our interdependency on the fine threads of nature.

A buzzing crowd gathered at the British Film Institute Southbank to learn about the past, present and future of Scotland’s ecosystems. Through the film, guests saw a cinematic and powerful portrait of our ‘Lost Eden’; they learned how we can come together to restore and rewild Scotland’s waterways and woodlands; and came away with passion and enthusiasm to build a healthier environment.

Now, the challenge is on.

Highlights

You’ve helped to launch a riparian restoration project

Through ticket sales and our auction, we raised more than £54,000, which will be used to kickstart a riparian restoration project in collaboration with the Kyle of Sutherland Fisheries Trust (KSFT). Scotland’s most immersive rewilding journey, in collaboration with Wildlands and Sandgrouse Travel was sold twice; two special contributors will soon travel from the heart of the Cairngorms, to the pioneering restoration project at Alladale Wilderness Reserve, onwards to the coastal tip of Sutherland.

In the coming months, we’ll be sharing more details of our chosen riparian restoration project, and our collaboration with The Fishmonger’s Company, a philanthropic group joining our mission to launch a flagship restoration project across the main rivers of the Kyle catchment.

But there’s work to be done. It’s down to us a community to come together to restore and rewild Scotland’s ecosystems. Our panel discussion highlighted that conservationists too often ‘preach to the converted’. We need to work across all levels of society to build a unified vision for a healthier environment, and continue creating ‘noise for nature’.

For those who missed it

Watch the trailer for the hit sensation below. SCOTLAND: The Big Picture are currently in discussions with multiple networks concerning the film’s wider distribution; we will keep you informed of progress.

With gratitude to our sponsors

Joining us in our vision for restored and thriving river catchments, the evening has been made possible by our sponsors Thomas Sabo and Newcore Capital. Through the sponsorship, all proceeds from ticket sales were able to be donated to our chosen river restoration project on the Kyle catchment.
