A debut documentary maker brings a unique perspective to human–wildlife coexistence
On 24th May, The European Nature Trust will be hosting the London premiere of Riverwoods at the British Film Institute. Purchase your tickets now, support river catchment restoration, and have the chance to win a three night stay at Alladale!
Scotland’s Atlantic salmon are suffering. Their numbers have dropped by 70 per cent within the last 50 years. As our climate warms, rivers are becoming too hot. Without trees to provide shade and cool rivers, our deforested riverbanks fail to provide the cooling conditions and shade that salmon populations need. Scientists from Marine Scotland have found that just 35% of rivers in Scotland have adequate tree cover for salmon survival. We must get trees back on riverbanks, and fast.
That’s why The European Nature Trust has supported the production of the feature-length documentary Riverwoods. Produced by SCOTLAND: The Big Picture, and shot across multiple locations in Europe, the film shines a light on the perilous state of wild salmon populations and the degraded river catchments we’ve come to accept as normal.
Every one of us can make a difference. On the 24th May, The European Nature Trust is hosting the London premiere of Riverwoods at the prestigious British Film Institute (BFI) Southbank. 100% of the proceeds raised from ticket sales will be directed to projects restoring the most affected river catchments in Scotland. By purchasing tickets, you can support a burgeoning movement for river restoration; you can help get trees back on our waterways; and restore the keystone species riparian ecosystems need.
By attending the event, not only can guests contribute to river restoration initiatives, but you’ll have the chance to win an exclusive three night stay for two people (room sharing) at Alladale Wilderness Reserve, as the guests of the conservationist and custodian, Paul Lister.
Alladale Wilderness Reserve is one of Scotland’s most exciting rewilding projects; more than a million native trees have been replanted along the rivers here, red squirrels have been reintroduced, golden and white-tailed eagles have soared.
Attendees and businesses who purchase 4 or more tickets will automatically enter a prize draw for the three night stay at Alladale, usually retailing at £3,000.
