A profound tale of wolves and humans in Europe, ‘The Wolf Within’ unveils the fragile balance of nature, and the need for coexistence in a changing world. In a landscape torn between harmony and conflict, ‘The Wolf Within’ delves deep into the relationship between wolves and humans in Europe. Through the lens of diverse characters, including conservationists, shepherds, hunters and more, the film unveils the fragile balance of nature and the need for coexistence. As wolves face an uncertain future, their journey intertwines with the resilience of communities, offering a poignant reflection on the essence of cohabitation in the modern world.

Purpose

EU Member States recently voted to downgrade the protection status of the wolf under the Bern Convention. This unscientific shift opens the door to wolf culling as a false solution to livestock depredation, countering Europe’s commitment to safeguarding and restoring biodiversity under the Kunming Montreal Biodiversity Framework.

At the London Premiere on 6th November, we will join a chorus of more than 300 NGOs advocating human-wolf coexistence. We will learn about the vital role wolves play in Europe’s ecosystems, reviewing the path to coexistence through proven, preventative measures.

The film will release on the WaterBear Network at the end of October, as part of a broad campaign to prevent wolf culling in Europe. You can use your voice now to help prevent wolves from being killed by signing the live Avaaz petition.

the Campaign to protect wolves in Europe

On Wednesday 25th September, a majority of EU Member States agreed to adopt the European Commission’s proposal to downgrade the protection status of the wolf under the Bern Convention.

With this decision, Member States chose to ignore the call of over 300 civil society organisations –convened by the European Environmental Bureau – and hundreds of thousands of people urging them to follow scientific recommendations, and step up efforts to foster coexistence with large carnivores. Rather than implement short-termist, environmentally damaging, and ineffective culling measures, European countries should foster long-term measures of large carnivore coexistence, supporting farmers with enduring solutions and maintaining Europe’s landmark conservation successes. We must coexist with large carnivores in order to meet our international obligations to the Kunming Montreal Biodiversity Framework.

On 31st October, WaterBear and TENT will release a campaign in solidarity with more than 300 NGOs driving signatures to a live Avaaz petition, demonstrating public support for coexistence over culling in wake of Europe’s decision to downgrade the protection status of the wolf.
