The Best Wildlife Watching Trips in Europe

Interested in watching wildlife in Europe? The continent is home to some of the world’s most elusive and iconic wildlife species—from wolves roaming the snow-covered Apennines, to the Iberian lynx prowling Andalusian landscapes, to hulking bears, deep in Romania’s ancient forests. If you’re dreaming of wildlife watching trips in Europe that not only connect you with nature but also support vital conservation efforts, look no further. As a charity, we offer guided wildlife tours (our Coexistence Adventures) where 100% of proceeds go directly towards protecting the habitats and species you’ll encounter. Here are some of the best wildlife watching trips in Europe for 2025 and 2026.

1. Bear and Wolf Watching in Italy
September 2025

Late Summer Bear and Wolf Adventure

For a truly unforgettable wildlife experience, our Bear and Wolf Watching Trip to Italy offers a rare glimpse into the lives of Europe’s top predators. Set in the heart of the Apennine Mountains, this trip combines stunning scenery with expert-led tracking in one of Italy’s last wild strongholds.

Participants will explore remote valleys and forested slopes, searching for signs of the elusive Apennine wolf and Marsican brown bear. These shy animals require patience and luck to spot—but the thrill of a sighting is unmatched. Alongside the “big names,” you’ll also observe wild boar, red deer, golden eagles, and an array of Alpine birds and butterflies. Guided by local experts from Italian NGOs Io Non Ho Paura Del Lupo and Salviamo l’Orso, you’ll have the best chances of seeing wildlife. You’ll enjoy authentic, premium accommodation at Albergo Vilino Quintiliani, and delight in authentic Italian cuisine in the delightful town of Pescasseroli.

2. Iberian Lynx Watching in Spain
April 2026

Iberian Lynx Recovery Adventure

The Iberian lynx was once the most endangered cat species on the planet. Spotting this ghost-like feline in its natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Better still, with a Coexistence Adventure, you can experience these animals alongside conservationists who have played an instrumental role in their recovery from less than 100 individuals in the early 2000s, to more than 2,200 in the wild today. Join us this November in Andalusia, southern Spain, as we track lynx through dehesa, olive groves, scrubland, and in wetland habitats.

Our guides work alongside conservationists to increase your chances of a sighting, and the trip includes visits to key lynx monitoring sites and lynx captive breeding-for-release centres. While the lynx is the star, expect to see other Mediterranean wildlife, including Spanish imperial eagles, otters, and hoopoes. We’ll be joined by leading conservationists and ecologists from CBD-Habitat foundation, one of the partner organisations on the famous EU-funded project that has brought lynx back from the brink.

🗓️ Trip Dates: April 12th–17th, 2026
📍 Location: Andalusia, Spain

Why go?

Highest chance to see the critically endangered Iberian lynx

Rich Mediterranean biodiversity

Supports lynx conservation and habitat protection

3. Winter Wolf Watching in Italy
February and May 2026

Winter Wolf Adventure

Looking for a wildlife watching trip in winter? Our Winter Wolf Watching Trip is an unforgettable experience for those who love snow, solitude, and wild landscapes. Return to the Apennines for a colder, quieter version of our autumn trip. Winter offers an entirely different atmosphere—wolves are more active during the day, and their prints are easier to track in the snow.

We keep group sizes small and focus on ethical, low-impact tracking. You’ll also learn about wolf ecology, conservation challenges, and the cultural history of wolves in Italy, guided by those on the frontlines of carnivore conservation. Return to the comfort of the fire in our premium accommodation after a day looking for wolves and other wildlife. We’ll be joined by leading ecologists from Italy’s foremost wolf NGO, Io Non Ho Paura Del Lupo.
